ORLANDO, Fla. — Regional health information organizations (RHIOs) endured many challenges in 2007, but states and communities are still forging ahead with the goal of improving patient safety and quality through health information exchange. RHIOs, health information exchanges (HIEs) and the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) continue to be important topics at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition. Not only are there several education sessions on these topics, but many technology vendors are exhibiting tools to help communities and organizations securely exchange patient data.
