E-session to teach best practices for provider EMR implementation

ORLANDO, Fla. — Providers are constantly being told of the benefits of electronic medical record (EMR) systems, but numerous barriers have kept adoption low.
“Not only is the medical profession heavily paper-based, but EMR adoption will also necessitate changes to clinical processes and force doctors and hospitals to work differently than they have previously,” said John Samani, practicing physician and president of the Michigan Knee and Shoulder Institute.
Attendees representing hospital and physician practices can learn about best practices to implementing EMR systems in an e-session, one of the most popular features of the Annual HIMSS Conference because of its flexible, computer-based multimedia format.
Samani will outline both the challenges, including striking a balance between protecting business interest and providing advanced patient care, and the benefits.
“EMR systems hold great promise to positively transform the U.S. healthcare industry by improving patient care and lowering healthcare costs,” he said.
Samani’s session will highlight strategies for effective integration of EMR systems among physician practices and hospitals.
“This e-presentation will help hospital executives and others appreciate the benefits and challenges associated with the use of EMR systems in hospitals and physician practices, and offer best practices in integration, to foster increased EMR adoption across both entities,” he said.
The 20-minute module allows attendees to learn on their own time, while earning CE hours.
For conference registrants who are unable to plug in to this or any other e-session while at the Conference, you can purchase the CD with CE credits at the HIMSS bookstore.
